On June 29th, Dr. Kuncoro Foe, President of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya, Indonesia, and Dr. Suryadi Ismadji, Dean of Engineering Faculty visited NTNU. President Cheng-Chih Wu; Prof.Kuang-Chao Yu, Vice President for International Affairs, Office of International Affairs; Prof. Chin-Pao CHENG, Dean of College of Technology & Engineering, and Prof. Hsiang-Lin Liu, Chair of the Department of Physics, welcomed them in person.
President Kuncoro Foe explained that the reason why he would like to visit our university is that NTNU is known for its strong teacher training system, academic research, and comprehensive courses. In addition, the effective results in international exchange and academic cooperation in NTNU is also one of the reasons he would like to ask for advice.
Furthermore, President Kuncoro Foe also emphasized that if possible, he would like to send excellent teachers and students to NTNU and participate in several academic activities, such as internship or research courses. To extend the topic, President Wu replied that since Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya and NTNU do not have an official agreement yet, he suggest that both sides could start the academic exchange with short-term courses. Also, President Wu introduced the Mandarin Teaching Center (MTC) in NTNU. He states that since Chinese has become a trend recently, many international students come to NTNU and study Chinese in this center, which is currently the largest and the most renowned Chinese language center in Taiwan, with around 1,700 students from more than 70 countries enrolled each academic quarter. He strongly suggests that if there's any opportunity, students from Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya may come and learn Chinese with other international students in NTNU.
Before the guests left, the student ambassador showed them around the campus, including the library, auditorium, and administration building. The guests from Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya had a great time in NTNU.
