    ※If the applicant is of foreign nationality as specified in Article 2 under the MOE Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan and possesses (or has possessed) nationality status from the Republic of China (R.O.C.), additional proof is required, such as entry and departure records for the past 6 years, a declaration form stating that they do not hold a R.O.C. household registration, Certificate of Nationality Renouncement of Republic of China or other proof of documents.
  • An official financial statement
    ※a minimum of NTD 100,000 (or USD 3,000) is required. Please select one of the following ways of submission:
    (1)An official financial statement issued within the past three months from a financial institution.
    (2)If the financial statement provided is not under the name of the applicant, please submit (a) the sponsor’s financial statement (b) a financial guarantee from the sponsor
    (3)The proof showing the applicant have been awarded full scholarship.
  • Diploma of the highest academic degree
  • One translated copy of the applicant’s highest diploma in English or Chinese
  • One translated copy of the applicant’s complete transcripts (for ALL years of study) in English or Chinese

  • ※Eligible applicants who graduate at the same year as the admission to National Taiwan Normal University must submit transcripts for each academic semester and the ‘Deposition of Admission Documents for National Taiwan Normal University International Applicants’, and are not required to submit the diploma during application. The diploma and transcripts for each academic semester must be submitted upon registration (Diplomas or degree certificates from China are required to have the documents notarized by relevant authorities.); otherwise, the applicants admitted to NTNU will have their admission revoked.

    ※Applicants applying with diplomas or degree certificates from China are required to have the documents notarized by relevant authorities. If authentication cannot be completed by the application deadline, please submit degree certificate, complete transcript and a signed Deposition of Admission Documents.

    ※Admitted students must submit the original ones for review to the Office of International Affairs on the day of enrollment.

    ※NTNU holds the right to request applicants to have their degree certificate or diploma authenticated by the ROC diplomatic missions should NTNU find any problem in the applicants’ documents.

IntroductionThe predecessor of our department was the Physics program in the department of physics and chemistry, National Taiwan Normal College, founded in 1946. We branched out in 1962, established physics master program in 1974 and Ph.D. program in 1991. For a long time, it has been our duty to train secondary school physics teachers in Taiwan, while we were not forgetting to pursue innovation and improvement in the research. To date, we have produced an Academician of Academia Sinica and close to a hundred of researchers of Academia Sinica and professors of universities. Not to mention, we have also produced many of the high-tech specialists in all kinds of industry. After the secondary school teacher nurture law was amended in 1994, on the basis of what we have and with all our efforts, we have been promoting ourselves into an outstanding department emphasizing both basic research and applied science.

The focus of this department’s research includes: condensed-matter physics, surface science and nanotechnology, high-energy physics and string theory, biophysics and soft-matter physics, atomic, molecular, and optical physics, and science education. We have over thirty full-time professors and several part-time and adjunct professors. Our faculty members have hold about thirty research projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology annually, and total grant funds are over forty million NT per year. Our research results are marvelous, publishing about 70 articles on the renowned SCI journals each year. In addition to basic researches, we have also promoted online education and digital science research to bolster science education and learning systems.

In response to the changing times and the different needs and career plans of students, this department is constantly making adjustments to our courses. In addition to the upgrades in the core physics courses and secondary school teacher training program, we are emphasizing the career counseling and professional skills, adding more applied science courses such as the Electro-Optical program to foster semiconductor, modern optics, and photonics science and technology professionals. To enhance the research manpower and also help nurture academic and high-tech experts in Taiwan, through the pre-master degree program and the direct Ph.D. program, undergraduate students in this department have the opportunity to obtain the master degree in five years and the Ph.D. in seven years.

Career ProspectsA physics degree is a ticket into a wide range of options on science, engineering, and technology careers. One of the most common careers for a physics major is a physics teacher. However, our courses combine research-based and hands-on practical education, so our students are able to have a variety of career options, such as applications engineer, research associate, data analyst, design engineer, IT consultant, lab technician, laser engineer, optical engineer, software developer, systems analyst, web developer, and high school physics teacher…, etc.
